We’ve just announced a completely redesigned ExpressVPN app for Android and iOS. It’s the same app you know and trust, now rebuilt to be faster, smarter, and more user-friendly across both platforms.
The upgrades below are being rolled out to those of you who already use ExpressVPN, and will become fully available to all users on 30 May.
Here’s a quick look at what’s changed—and why it matters.
A cleaner, faster design
What’s new:
The app has a fresh new look. You’ll see a cleaner interface, quicker access to settings, a more intuitive Profile screen (formerly Options), and easier-to-find Help content.
Why it matters:
It’s all about making everyday use quicker and more seamless. The app now feels simpler, cleaner, and more intuitive, just like it should.
OpenVPN on iOS
What’s new:
iOS users now have the option to use OpenVPN, in addition to Lightway and IKEv2.
Why it matters:
Lightway is still our go-to protocol for speed, reliability, and security, but we know one size doesn’t fit all.
Adding OpenVPN to iOS gives you more flexibility and control. It’s one of the most widely supported protocols out there, known for its stability and ability to get around tough network restrictions.
More options = more ways to stay protected.
Built-in speed test
What’s new:
You can now run speed tests in the app to check how your current server is doing and see which server is the fastest right now.
Why it matters:
If you stream, game, or just want the smoothest possible experience, this is a quick way to find the best server without trial and error.
Smarter Smart Location
What’s new:
Smart Location is now even smarter. It uses speed, latency, and distance to suggest the best servers for you, plus you’ll see the top 3-5 fastest locations at the top of your list.
Why it matters:
You get the fastest, most reliable connection with just one tap. Great when you don’t want to think about which server to pick.
A whole new map view
What’s new:
You’ll now see your selected server and IP info on a map. It’s a small but very welcome change that makes connecting feel a bit more visual (and fun).
Why it matters:
The map makes it easier to get a sense of where you’re connected, especially handy if you’re traveling or switching regions often.
And more to come
This redesign is just the start. We’ve got more in the works to keep improving your experience on mobile—so stay tuned!
